The Stourbridge Magic Club

Constitution (draft)

Aims

The Stourbridge Magic Club (SMC) is intended to be a friendly, informal affiliation of magicians who take a keen interest in performing magic with a view to raising money for charities. The SMC intends to be associated with the School of Wizardry held at the House of Magic UK and give support to pupils of that school and to give them further opportunities in magic.

Constitution

Whilst the SMC is small, there will be no management committee, as that function will be carried out by meeting of the membership as a whole. This situation will be reviewed at least once each year at the SMC’s Annual General Meeting .The officers of the club will be the Chairman, Treasurer & Secretary and holders of these positions will be elected at the GM which will be held annually in the last 3 months of the calendar year. Should the elected chairman not be present at any meeting, those members present shall elect a member to undertake the duties of the chairman for that meeting only. Any other functions of the SMC will be performed by individual members on a task-by-task basis. All adult members are expected to take an active part in the running of the club.

Ali Bongo has agreed to be the patron of the SMC

John Milner has agreed to be the president of the SMC

Meetings

An official meeting shall consist of not less than 4 members and should be called either by

  1. Setting the date & venue at the previous meeting or
  2. An email circulated to all members or a message posted on the SMC section of the House of Magic UK forum at least a week before a proposed meeting

Any matters involving finance or the constitution should be agreed by a meeting attended by at least 75% of the club’s membership and by a vote with a majority of at least 50% of the clubs membership.

Funding

The founder members of the SMC have made an initial donation of £5 and will pay a £5 annual membership fee at the fist meeting of the calendar year. Any new members will pay a £5 joining few and an annual membership fee of £5. The junior membership fee will be £5 per year with no joining fee. What did we say about associate members?

Any member who is more than one month in arrears will be expelled from the club and re-admittance will be at the discretion of a members meeting and subject to the outstanding amounts being paid in full. Some funds will be used to purchase equipment for the sole use of the SMC (lights, audio equipment etc), but the SMC is intended to be a non-profit making organisation with any excess cash being donated to the club’s supported charities. However, a small contingency fund to cover ad-hoc expenses. If in the opinion of the membership, the contingency fund is becoming too large, funds will be reduced by making donations to the SMC’s supported charities.

In the event of the club being wound up, any funds held will be paid over to the club’s supported charities after the deduction of any monies needed to clear the outstanding debts of the club.
